Nürnberg, or Nuremberg as it is spelled and pronounced in English, hosts one of the most famous and largest of the Christmas markets in Germany. Nürnberg is now an important center of commerce, located in the state of Bayern (Bavaria in English). It is very well known for the manufacture of the finest gingerbread, or in German, Lebkuchen. Carole and I went this year (Dec 7, 2002), it was cold and extremely crowded, but we had fun none-the-less. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Germany between mid November and December, but try to make it a weekday to be able to enjoy all the different ornaments and crafts available.
