Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands chain. While it is a part of Spain, with a mainly Spanish culture and language, it has become a "little Britain and Germany". This is evidenced in the one picture I took from the hotel, with a German restaurant next to a fish and chips joint. There are plenty of places to sample the local "Canarian" cuisine, and we took advantage of that as well as sampling the more familiar tastes. The island was not the "beach" atmosphere we'd anticipated--much of the beaches are a black sand, and most of the island has rocky shores (or at least the part we were at). Also there is a 3000 meter mountain peak on the island, and this seems to "grab" the clouds as they pass, so we did have some rain. There was a beach, San Teresita, that has golden sand, but we did not go there--we did take in sun at the pool, and enjoyed the 70 degree (Farenheit) weather for Thanksgiving! We also continued the Thanksgiving tradition of ours, having Chinese food for our dinner.
